Taking a break in downtown with a nutrient-infused shake.

FARGO, N.D.— When craving a guilt-free snack, shakes can be a refreshing treat. Teaberry and Fit Republic both promote healthy living but each differs in their approach. Fit Republic located in downtown Moorhead sells nutrient-infused shakes. Teaberry located in downtown Fargo sells boba tea shakes.  Speaking to customers and employees, I gathered information on Fit Republic and Teaberry’s environment and taste.

Teaberry is located at 119 Broadway North, Fargo, N.D.

Teaberry creates comfort

At Teaberry, customers say, cozy couches and beanbag chairs create a cozy atmosphere.

Lauren Gaffney and friends relax on Teaberry’s furniture.

“It’s nice to have a place just to hang out. I love these big squishy chairs,” Lauren Gaffney said.  Large wall-sized windows at the front of the building allow customers t to observe downtown streets.

A group of friends sit in the bean bags by the wall-sized windows.

“Most people, I think, come here for the atmosphere,” Teaberry employee Nhia Yang said.

In addition to the comfortable seating, Teaberry gives the customers the option to play board games.

Teaberry carries such board games as Monopoly, Scrabble and Apples to Apples.

New to Teaberry, I experienced its comforting atmosphere; the quiet, soft colors invited me away from the cool downtown Fargo streets.

Teaberry is painted with cool green and blue colors.

Fit Republic motivates active living

Fit Republic is located at 21 4th St Moorhead, Minn.

Fit Republic’s design differs from the tranquility of Teaberry. Large menus fill the wall, detailing their 84 flavors of shakes. Electronic music keeps the energy high as customers order their shakes. Describing itself as a nutrition club, Fit Republic motivates customers to stay active.

Fit Republic’s advertisement motivates people to improve their health.

“I usually come here after a workout. The atmosphere reminds me why I’m trying to stay fit,” Ellen Lenz said.

I ordered a tropical fruit shake with added protein and a raspberry iced tea.

Each menu has a title of either “weight management,”  “workout recovery” or “strength building.” With a shake, customers receive a choice of either hot or cold tea and an aloe shot. Fit Republic carries other products including vitamins, dietary supplements, energy drinks and even skin-care products.

 Customers enjoy pearls and jellies

This blue raspberry boba tea includes pearls at the bottom of the shake.

“I like these shakes over other ones in the area because of the pearls,” Abbie Clapp said. Pearls are large slippery tapioca beads with a sweet center. Teaberry uses larger straws to accommodate the pearls in the drink. Another option it offers is jellies, these are small fruit flavored jello-like ice cubes. Customers are also encouraged to mix and match flavors.

“Our fresh fruits flavors are the most popular but we do offer the option for hot teas as well as cold ones,” Yang said.

Like Fit Republic, Teaberry sells hot or cold drinks. Teaberry offers desert crepes and blended coffees.

Variety of flavors offered at Fit Republic

Customers can customize their order by adding either protein or tea.  Fit Republic advertises a variety of flavors.  Different flavors are popular at various times of the year.

“Right now, our pumpkin pie shake is quiet popular,” employee Shannon Novak said.

Choosing my perfect shake

After gathering this information about each store, I cannot recommend one over the other. Both intend to improve the health of Fargo-Moorhead residents but in very different ways. Teaberry invites us to relax while Fit Republic encourages people to reach goals. Choose a store that fits your needs.
